Nine separate warranties come with this vehicle and most buyers hear about two of them. What follows is the whole list, the exclusions in Mazda’s own words, and a straight answer to the question we field every week about independent servicing.
A new 2026 Mazda CX-5 comes with a 36-month or 36,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty, a 60-month or 60,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty, 60 months of anti-perforation corrosion coverage with no mileage limit, and a 60-month or 60,000-mile Safety Restraint System warranty.[1] Whichever comes first applies in each case.
Two things matter straight away. The factory includes no scheduled maintenance of any kind; the booklet lists it explicitly as an owner expense. And the coverage transfers to a second owner, which matters more to your resale value than most people realise.
Mazda’s 2026 Warranty Information booklet names nine separate coverages. Most buyers are told about two of them.
| Coverage | Term[1] | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| New Vehicle Limited Warranty | 36 mo. / 36,000 mi. | Defects in material or workmanship on the vehicle as delivered |
| Powertrain Limited Warranty | 60 mo. / 60,000 mi. | Engine, transmission and drive system components |
| Safety Restraint System | 60 mo. / 60,000 mi. | Air bags and seat belt systems |
| Anti-Perforation | 60 mo., no mileage limit | A hole corroded through a body sheet metal panel |
| Service Adjustment | 12 mo. / 12,000 mi. | Minor adjustments such as wheel balance, alignment and headlight aiming |
| Replacement Parts and Accessories | 12 mo. / 12,000 mi. | Mazda parts and accessories bought after delivery |
| Original equipment 12V battery | 36 mo. / 36,000 mi. | The factory-fitted starter battery |
| Air conditioner refrigerant charge | First 12 mo., no mileage limit | Refrigerant, thereafter only as part of a warranty repair |
| Federal emission control | Up to 96 mo. / 80,000 mi. | Emission components, in tiers. The catalytic converter and the two emission control units carry the longest term |
This one catches people. The booklet states that “the originally equipped tires are warranted by the tire manufacturer” and refers you to a separate pamphlet in the glovebox. Mazda lists ten possible tire warrantors, and which one applies depends on which brand your specific vehicle was built with. If you have a tire problem, bring the car to us anyway at (321) 236-9164 and we will identify the warrantor and handle the claim with them.
One more term worth naming because nobody mentions it at delivery. Genuine Mazda accessories installed by a dealer before you take the car carry the same 36-month coverage as the vehicle. Accessories bought later and fitted by a dealer carry 12 months or the remainder of the component’s own coverage, whichever is longer. Accessories bought over the counter and fitted yourself carry 12 months on the part cost alone, with no labor.[2] If you are planning a roof rack or a tow hitch, ordering it at delivery is worth real money.
The exclusions section is the part of the booklet nobody reads and the part that decides most disputes, so here it is in plain terms.
Maintenance is at your expense. Mazda’s list is one sentence long and it leaves nothing out: “Normal maintenance services such as cleaning and polishing, lubrication, and replenishment or replacement of oil, fluid, coolant, worn wiper blades, filters, worn brake and clutch linings, spark plugs, fuses, keyless transmitter batteries etc.”[1]
Environmental damage is out. Mazda names acid rain, airborne fallout, salt, road hazards, hail, wind storm, lightning and floods, along with cosmetic conditions and surface corrosion from stone chips. In this state the flood exclusion is the one to remember, and it is the reason the owner’s manual tells you not to drive on flooded roads.
Damage from lack of maintenance is out, and Mazda puts that in parentheses for emphasis: “Failure to properly maintain your vehicle can result in your warranty being voided either in whole or in part.” Alteration, modification and tampering are out. Misuse, which Mazda illustrates with driving over curbs, overloading, racing and snowplowing, is out.
Search a dealer site for a Mazda brake pad warranty and you will find figures. Mazda publishes none. Brake linings, wiper blades, filters and clutch linings appear in the booklet only in the owner-expense list, with no term attached to any of them.[1] Separately, replacement Genuine Mazda brake pads and shoes bought later carry their own lifetime limited parts warranty for as long as you own the vehicle, with labor at your cost. That is a warranty on the parts you buy from us, not on the ones the car came with, and the difference matters.
Two items do carry a stated period and they are easy to miss. Spark plugs are covered “under the basic warranty or until the first required maintenance, whichever comes first.” And the air conditioning refrigerant charge is covered for the first 12 months regardless of mileage, then only when it is replenished as part of a warranty repair.
No, and we would rather tell you that plainly than let you worry about it. We are a Mazda dealership, we would like your service business, and we are still going to quote Mazda accurately.
The booklet sets one condition: “If you elect to perform maintenance yourself or have your vehicle serviced at a location other than an Authorized Mazda Dealer, Mazda requires that all fluids, parts and materials must meet Mazda standards for durability and performance as described in your Owner’s Manual.”[1] Meet the specification, keep the paperwork. That is the whole requirement.
Mazda explicitly accepts work you did yourself as evidence, listing among acceptable records “a statement that you completed the maintenance yourself, displaying mileage and the date the work was performed,” with receipts for the parts. And in the federal emission section it goes further: “Owners may elect to use parts other than Mazda Parts in the performance of any maintenance or repairs and such use in itself will not invalidate this warranty.”
Not who turned the wrench. A failure Mazda can trace to the wrong specification of fluid, to an improperly performed installation, or to a modification. And an inability to show that maintenance happened at all, because the booklet requires you to keep records and warns that failing to produce them can void coverage in whole or in part. Keep every receipt, wherever the work was done.
Every visit to our service department is logged against your VIN and stays there whether you bought the car from us or not. If you service elsewhere, keep the invoices somewhere you will find them in four years.
What we would say for using us is narrower and more honest than the scare story: our technicians are Mazda-certified on this specific vehicle, we stock the right oil and the right filter for a third-generation car whose part numbers changed, and we see any open software campaign against your VIN while the car is on the lift.[3] That is a service argument, not a warranty threat.
Every Mazda dealer page lists roadside assistance at 3 years or 36,000 miles. We went looking for it in the 2026 Warranty Information booklet and it is not there. The words roadside, lockout, jump start and fuel delivery appear nowhere in that document.[4]
What the booklet does carry, twice, is towing as a warranty benefit: towing “to the nearest Mazda Dealer” when a warranted part failure leaves the vehicle undrivable, extended to the 60-month powertrain term for a powertrain component. That is a real, documented benefit for the 2026 model year.
The rest of the program is published on Mazda’s brand pages rather than in the model-year booklet, and those pages carry no date. On that basis:
| Service | Published term | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Towing after a warranted failure | 36 mo. / 36,000 mi., or 60 mo. / 60,000 mi. for powertrain | In the 2026 booklet. To the nearest Mazda dealer. No mileage cap is published |
| Lockout assistance | 36 mo. / 36,000 mi. | Brand page, undated |
| Jump start | 36 mo. / 36,000 mi. | Brand page, undated |
| Flat tire assistance | 36 mo. / 36,000 mi. | Brand page, undated |
| Fuel delivery | 36 mo. / 36,000 mi. | Brand page, undated |
| Trip interruption reimbursement | Not offered | No such benefit is published for the factory program. It exists only inside a purchased service agreement |
Mazda publishes no lodging or meal reimbursement, and no dollar cap, anywhere in the factory roadside program. Those benefits are real, but they belong to the optional service agreements you can buy separately, and they should be described that way. We would rather set the expectation correctly now than have you make a phone call from a roadside in Georgia that goes badly.
Search for Mazda CX-5 warranty terms and a figure of 96 months or 100,000 miles will come back at you. It is real, and it has nothing to do with this vehicle.
That is the High Voltage Battery Limited Warranty, and Mazda’s coverage chart splits by powertrain. It appears only on the chart for hybrid and plug-in hybrid models, and not on the gasoline chart that governs the 2026 Mazda CX-5.[1]
The reason is simple: the 2026 Mazda CX-5 has no high-voltage battery. There is no hybrid version and no mild hybrid version. It has a 12-volt starter battery like any conventional car, warranted for 36 months or 36,000 miles. A hybrid Mazda CX-5 is confirmed for the 2027 model year, and its coverage will be published with it.[5]
Aggregator tables list every warranty a manufacturer offers against every model it sells, which produces rows that do not apply to the car in front of you. If you are comparing a 2026 Mazda CX-5 against a hybrid rival, the high-voltage battery row belongs to the rival and not to this vehicle. Bring us the comparison and we will go through it line by line.
The warranty transfers. Mazda’s wording is direct: “During the warranty period, this warranty is transferable to subsequent owners.” The New Vehicle, Powertrain, Safety Restraint and Anti-Perforation warranties all open with the phrase “this transferable Limited Warranty,” and the emission warranties cover any subsequent owner by definition.[1]
Two practical points about that. The transfer is administrative rather than automatic, so an ownership information change has to be made through a dealer. And the booklet itself is part of the deal: Mazda asks you to bring the vehicle to a dealer “along with this booklet.” If you sell privately, leave it in the glovebox.
On the certified pre-owned side, a Mazda CPO vehicle carries the balance of its original coverage plus a further 12 months or 12,000 miles with no deductible, a powertrain warranty running to 7 years or 100,000 miles from the original in-service date, roadside assistance for that whole powertrain term, and a 160-point inspection by a factory-trained technician. The roadside term is the underrated part: seven years against three on a new car.[4]
You can also buy coverage on top. Mazda sells vehicle service agreements and prepaid maintenance plans through Mazda Financial Services, in several tiers, transferable once to a private buyer and cancellable under their own terms. Mazda publishes no pricing for any of them, so anyone quoting you a figure online is guessing. Ours are quoted in person and the purchase is optional and not required to obtain credit.[6]
A few things specific to owning this vehicle here.
Keep the records where you can find them, and take a photograph of each invoice. Paper in a Florida glovebox does not age well, and the booklet is explicit that you must be able to produce evidence of maintenance if a coverage question ever arises.
Understand the flood exclusion before hurricane season rather than during it. Water damage is not a warranty claim, it is an insurance claim, and the owner’s manual asks you to consult a dealer if the vehicle has been immersed. If that happens, call us before you try to start it.
And know that any Mazda dealer in the country can perform warranty work, so a failure on I-95 in Georgia is not a problem you have to drive home with. The towing benefit takes you to the nearest Mazda dealer, not to us, and that is the right outcome.
If you are not sure what is still covered on your vehicle, call (321) 236-9164 with your VIN and we will look it up while you are on the phone. That includes any open recall or software campaign, which is a separate matter from warranty and is free regardless of age.[3]
Every scheduled service, when it falls due and the Orlando driving pattern that halves the oil interval.
What the published reliability scores actually cover, plus recalls and complaints on record.
A new 2026 Mazda CX-5 carries a 36-month or 36,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty, a 60-month or 60,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty, a 60-month or 60,000-mile Safety Restraint System warranty and 60 months of anti-perforation corrosion coverage with no mileage limit.[1] Whichever comes first applies.
No. Mazda includes no complimentary scheduled maintenance from the factory on the 2026 Mazda CX-5. The Warranty Information booklet lists maintenance explicitly as an owner expense.[1] Mazda sells prepaid maintenance plans separately. Any free-service offer you see is a dealer program with its own terms rather than factory coverage.
Yes. Mazda states that “during the warranty period, this warranty is transferable to subsequent owners,” and the booklet names no coverage as non-transferable.[1] The transfer requires an ownership information change through a dealer, and the warranty booklet should stay with the vehicle when it changes hands.
No. Mazda requires only that the fluids, parts and materials meet its published specifications, and that you keep the records.[1] Mazda accepts self-performed maintenance as evidence and states that using non-Mazda parts “in itself will not invalidate this warranty.” What can cost coverage is a failure traced to the wrong specification, a bad installation or a modification.
No. Brake linings appear in Mazda’s owner-expense list with no coverage period attached, alongside wiper blades, filters and fluids.[1] Replacement Genuine Mazda brake pads bought later carry their own lifetime limited parts warranty for as long as you own the vehicle, with installation at your cost. That covers the parts you buy, not the ones fitted at the factory.
The factory-fitted 12-volt battery is covered for 36 months or 36,000 miles.[1] The 96-month, 100,000-mile figure that circulates is Mazda’s high-voltage battery warranty, which applies to its hybrid and plug-in hybrid models. The 2026 Mazda CX-5 has no high-voltage battery. Call (321) 236-9164 with your VIN and we will confirm what is still in force.

[4] This figure was not published in a 2026-model-year Mazda document available at the time of writing and is carried from the previous-generation Mazda CX-5, from a supplier catalog, or from a component manufacturer’s own publication rather than Mazda’s. Because the 2026 Mazda CX-5 is an all-new vehicle, confirm it against your vehicle’s VIN with the Sport Mazda South parts or service department before relying on it.
