2023 Mazda CX-50 Trim Comparison

The all-new, 2023 Mazda CX-50 is Mazda’s answer to the post-pandemic urge to get outside and There are several trim levels to choose from (or packages, as Mazda calls them) and sorting through the differences can be a bit overwhelming. So, we created this in-depth trim comparison and model overview to help you find the best fit for your adventurous lifestyle.

First, let’s review what comes standard on all CX-50 trim levels.

This all-new compact SUV comes loaded with some impressive standard equipment. For starters, the CX-50, and all CX models from 2022 forward, come equipped with Mazda's i-Activ AWD.

This advanced all-wheel drive system is predictive, meaning that it doesn't spin all four wheels all the time. Instead, a collection of sensors read road conditions, driver inputs, environmental metrics (like air temperature and humidity level) to transfer power where it's needed.

All of this processing is done in milliseconds and the result is a smooth, stable ride in all weather conditions. Plus, Mazda has done all of this without sacrificing fuel efficiency. The difference between the FWD and AWD platforms is only about one mpg.

All packages come equipped with Mazda's fun and efficient 2.5L inline 4-cylinder. This motor has been a staple in the Mazda lineup for years and has gained a reputation for its reliability and sporty driving dynamic.

To get that power to the ground, they've employed the same trusted 6 speed automatic transmission found in the other CX models.

Also standard is Mazda's Intelligent Drive Select technology (Mi-Drive). This function lets you toggle between various modes to match your terrain. Modes include:

  • Normal Mode: For a blend of performance and fuel economy on your daily commute.
  • Sport Mode: For a more responsive, dynamic driving experience.
  • Off-Road Mode: Coordinates brakes and engine torque to prioritize traction.

There is also the optional towing mode available with the turbocharged packages. Towing mode helps you tap into powerful low-end torque for towing loads up to 3,500 pounds.

Another standard feature in the CX-50 is Mazda Connected Services. This app-based service allows you to:

  • Stop and start your engine (great for cold mornings or hot afternoons)
  • Lock and unlock doors
  • Activate lights and flashers (no more losing your car in the parking lot)
  • Check fuel levels, oil life, and tire pressure (plan your stops before leaving your home or office)
  • Locate your vehicle on a map via GPS
  • And receive alerts when doors are left open or unlocked

Plus, you can schedule your service appointments, contact roadside assistance, search for recalls, and access your owner's manual - all from your smartphone!

In a world where we rely on our smartphones for just about everything, it only makes sense to create an interface between your phone and your car-and that's precisely how these tools work!

You simply plug in your phone (or connect to Bluetooth in the case of wireless Apple Carplay) and any compatible apps are available through your infotainment system and optimized for minimal distraction while driving.

As smartphones become a more integral part of our daily lives, distracted driving is on the rise. Fortunately, Mazda’s i-Activsense safety technologies are designed to minimize distracted driving AND protect you from distracted drivers.

This suite of safety tech includes:

  • Blind spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
  • Radar on the sides and rear of the vehicle provide visual and audible cues to alert you to vehicles in your blindspot.
  • Lane-Departure Warning and Lane-Keep Assist
  • This system uses a windshield-mounted camera to recognize lane markings. If you begin to veer outside of your lane, the system can warn you with a chime and steering wheel vibration. If you continue outside of your lane, Lane-Keep Assist will provide gentle steering assistance to bring the vehicle back to the center of the lane.
  • Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go
  • This adaptive cruise control system lets you set a constant driving speed like traditional cruise control, but takes things a step further by incorporating millimeter wave radar to maintain a relative distance from the vehicle in front of you. The Stop-and-Go functionality means that this same technology can be used to bring your vehicle to a complete stop in traffic. The system will then hold your vehicle in place automatically until traffic flow resumes and you tap the gas or push the resume button on the steering wheel.
  • High Beam Control
  • High beam control automatically turns your high beams on and off as needed when driving at night.
  • Acceleration Control
  • This feature prevents accidental rapid acceleration by sounding an alarm and curbing engine power when the gas pedal is pressed unintentionally while an object is in front of you.
  • Forward Obstruction Warning
  • FOW sounds an alarm and provides visual warnings when it senses a risk of collision with an object ahead of you.
  • Smart Brake Support
  • Simply put, this emergency braking system senses the risk of a collision with the vehicle in front of you and prepares the brakes for rapid deceleration. If you fail to brake or take evasive action, the system simultaneously applies the brakes and cuts power to the engine.
  • Smart City Brake Support
  • SCBS provides the same emergency braking assistance as SBS, but if only functions at speeds between 2 and 19 miles per hour.
